7 Things You Need to Keep in Your Car When You Have Children
(This post may contain affiliate links)
It seems like every time we leave the house I’ve forgotten something that I need for the kids. Please tell me I’m not the only one.
One time we went out to eat and I had forgotten my diaper bag. Of course, that’s when my daughter decided to have a blowout and I was freaking out. Thanks to my messy tendencies I found an extra diaper and outfit in the car.
From that day forward I planned to always be prepared. I compiled a list of everything I needed when leaving the house with the kids. Anything from a bottle of water to a first aid kit. I don’t know how many times this has saved me when I was in a jam!
Here are 8 things you need to keep in your car when you have children.
If your kids are like mine, they’re always hungry. I love to keep no perishable snacks in the trunk. I keep granola bars, crackers, gummy snacks and water bottles.
This also saved me on several occasions while pregnant. When your blood sugar drops when pregnant you feel horrible! Deal with kids while your blood sugar is low is probably the worst thing ever.
2. An extra set of clothes
Blowouts, spills, and mud are bound to end up on your kiddos clothes. Having an extra set of clothes will save you a lot of stress!
Remember to switch out the clothes when you kids go up in a size or the season changes. Always have a backup jacket as well. You never know when it might rain or get suddenly cold. Maybe that just an Idaho thing?
3. First aid kit
A first aid kit is great to have! Kids always seem to be hurting them self.
My daughter usually puts herself in the car while I put the baby in. Well, she got her foot caught and fell out of the car face first. Her poor little face was scrapped and bleeding.
I didn’t have a kit, but I happened to keep Neosporin in my purse and wipes. Having a proper kit would have been so nice.
Kids get bored and then they tend to have meltdowns. I love to use the tablet in the car, but it tends to die often. Having a few activities readily available is great. Try out these Diy activity bags!
5. Trash bags or a trash can
My kids aren’t the only ones to make a lot of trash. I seem to have so much that needs to be thrown away while I’m in the car. Having a trash bags hooked to the back of my front seats has been super helpful.
6. Winter supplies
As the seasons change, I switch out seasonal items. For winter I keep coats, gloves, hats, extra socks, and blankets. No one likes being cold and I feel horrible seeing my little ones miserable.
Also for you as an adult, you should keep cat litter, jumper cables, tire chains, and a window scraper. You’ll be glad especially if you get stuck in the snow.
7. Summer supplies
Last summer is when I started keeping things in my car for my kids. I found that I loved keeping towels, sunscreen, a swimsuit and swim diapers, and bottles of water available.
We’d be out and about when some would text me about going swimming. I would always say no because it was so much work to go back home to get the stuff. Once I started keeping everything in the car we would go all the time.
8. Diapers and Wipes
Being out of Diapers and Wipes seriously sucks! I know I’m not the only one who forgets to put more in the diaper bag or forget the bag altogether. Right?
Having backups is such a relief.
